Arsenal and Manchester United have received a major blow in their pursuit of 25-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma.

According to Fabrizio Romano via Caught Offside, Brighton might not sell Kaoru Mitoma in the summer amidst interest from Arsenal and Manchester United. Both the big English clubs are keen on having the 25-year-old in their ranks, but they might not find it easy to negotiate his departure with the Seagulls.

Romano believes that Brighton will not be willing to sell Mitoma in the summer because they are likely to lose out on two of their star midfielders. A lot of clubs are interested in the services of Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister. And, at least one of them will surely leave ahead of next season if not both.

Romano said, “Kaoru Mitoma is the latest name being linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, but Brighton will not sell the whole squad! We always have rumours on their players, I think it’s most likely to see at least one midfielder gone as they will try to keep Mitoma, who is really appreciated by Roberto De Zerbi.”

Brighton signed the 25-year-old in the summer of 2021 from Kawasaki Front. They immediately loaned him out for a year to Union SG. Mitoma returned to his parent club ahead of the ongoing season. And, since returning, he has gone from strength to strength.

The Japan international has featured in 26 matches in the ongoing season for the Seagulls. And, he has a total of 14 goal contributions to his name. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and a lot of clubs are interested in acquiring the 25-year-old.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are one of the clubs who are keen on having Mitoma in their ranks. The Gunners have had an impressive season so far. They are leading the league and are all set to return to the UEFA Champions League after quite a few years.

Mikel Arteta will head into the summer transfer window in order to strengthen his squad. He will look to sign a few players so that they can challenge for European glory next season. The Spanish tactician is keen on adding another winger to his ranks.

Even Manchester United are keen on having Mitoma in their squad. Erik ten Hag has done a great job since arriving at Old Trafford. However, there are a few key areas where he would like to have a few reinforcements. The Dutch tactician wants to add more firepower to his attack. And, he feels Mitoma could be a great fit for the club.

However, it will be a very difficult job for any of the two clubs to price him away. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi highly rates the 25-year-old. And, the Seagulls’ boss would not let go of him with ease given the fact that they are almost certain to lose out on a few star midfielders. As a result, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal or Manchester United can tempt Brighton to sell him.
