Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing 23-year-old FC Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa ahead of next season.
According to a report by Jornal de Noticias via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa in the summer. Spurs are looking for a new goalkeeper ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on the Portugal international.
Diogo Costa has been a part of the FC Porto setup since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and has become their undisputed number one over the past few seasons. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
The 23-year-old started all the matches for Portugal at the FIFA World Cup 2022. He was decent between the sticks at the global event and his performances have reignited the interest of Premier League clubs in his services.
Costa’s current contract at Porto ends in the summer of 2027. But, he could leave in the summer given the interest from across Europe. However, the Portugal international’s services will surely cost a fortune. While the Portuguese club are not interested in selling him, there is a €75 million release clause in his contract. And a sum closer to that might tempt them to sell.

Diogo Costa has been sensational in the ongoing season. He has made 30 appearances in total and has 14 clean sheets to his name. His numbers have been impressive and the interest in him is understandable.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the 23-year-old shot-stopper. They are looking for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris who is already 36. The France international is in the twilight stage of his career and it is the right time to look for a replacement.
Lloris hasn’t been at his best of late. His performances have suffered and injuries have also played a part in it. The 36-year-old’s inconsistency between the sticks have cost Spurs. And, they are looking to resolve it heading into next season.
However, it won’t be that easy a task to sign the 23-year-old given the amount of interest in his services. Manchester United are one of the clubs who are interested in signing Costa. They are also looking to strengthen their goalkeeping position and are likely to push Spurs all the way.
With two Premier League clubs expected to battle it out for his services, Costa might end up leaving FC Porto for a fee close to his €75 million release clause. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see who ends up signing the 23-year-old shot-stopper.
