Liverpool have reportedly been linked with a summer move for 25-year-old Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
A report from Fichajes claims that Liverpool are hoping to sign Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri from La Liga club Sevilla at the end of the season as a potential replacement for Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian striker will leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires. He will not sign an extension with the Premier League club. The Reds are now looking at potential replacements, and they have identified the 25-year-old as an option.
En-Nesyri has scored 12 goals across all competitions for the Spanish outfit and it remains to be seen whether the Reds are prepared to sign him at the end of the season. The report claims that Liverpool are willing to offer around £30 million for the towering striker.
En-Nesyri has a contract with La Liga giants Sevilla until the summer of 2025. And the Andalusian club could look to cash in on him if a substantial offer is presented. That gives Liverpool the impetus to launch the offensive.
Sevilla are reportedly going through financial difficulties right now and could look to balance the books. En-Nesyri has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past as well. However, a transfer has not materialised so far. And it remains to be seen whether the 25-year-old is keen on a move to Anfield.
Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world. And the opportunity to play for them could be an attractive option for the player. However, it would be quite surprising if the Reds decided to sign a target man to replace Firmino.
The Brazilian is more than just a goalscorer, and Jurgen Klopp should look to replace his skillset. En-Nesyri has hardly any similarity to the Brazilian international. And someone like Paulo Dybala would be a more like-for-like replacement.
There is no doubt that En-Nesyri would add a new dimension to the Liverpool attack with his physicality and aerial presence. But Liverpool already have those attributes in Darwin Nunez. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few months.
The Reds also have players like Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota at their disposal who are capable of replacing Roberto Firmino. Liverpool must look to prioritise midfield reinforcements now. So it seems unlikely that they will splash out £30 million on an attacker in the summer.
Regardless of how well En-Nesyri has performed for Sevilla since joining the club, he would be an underwhelming addition for a club like Liverpool, who hope to challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy in the coming seasons.
