West Ham United are all set to battle it out with Newcastle United for the signature of Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney.
According to 90min, West Ham United and Newcastle United are keen on securing the services of Kieran Tierney. The two Premier League clubs are all set to go up against each other to acquire the 25-year-old full-back.
Tierney joined the Gunners back in the summer of 2019. The north London club paid a fee of £25 million for the services of the Scottish full-back. The 25-year-old became a regular at Arsenal in no time and was one of the most important players for Mikel Arteta in the last few seasons. But, of late, he has found himself on the bench more often than not.
The Scotland international has featured in over 100 matches for the Gunners during his time at the Emirates. But, injuries have not helped the full-back of late. He has lost his spot to summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko who has produced impressive performances since arriving from Manchester City.
Tierney is currently below Zinchenko in the pecking order. He has started just four Premier League games all season long. While he might have 26 appearances in the campaign, he has only been on the pitch for just over 1,100 minutes.
The 25-year-old is highly regarded by the manager as well as the club. His current contract at Arsenal ends in the summer of 2026. However, his reduced game time is a big concern, and it is not going to improve anytime soon with Zinchenko at the peak of the powers.
While the player has not questioned his role at the Gunners, other clubs from across Europe have started expressing their interest in his services. West Ham United and Newcastle United are two clubs who are keen on having the 25-year-old.
The Magpies have been doing great business in the transfer market of late. They have been super efficient in the market post the takeover. And, Newcastle are trying to build a team that can win the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s men have identified the left-back position as an important area where they would like reinforcement in the summer.
They believe Kieran Tierney can be a great fix and he could easily take care of that position for the next half a dozen years. However, Newcastle United will face competition from West Ham United, who also have their eyes on the Arsenal full-back.
The Hammers have not had the best of time in the ongoing season. They are fighting for survival. And if they manage to survive in the English top flight, they are expected to go big in the summer. The left-back position is a key area where they would love to have a new signing. And, West Ham are keen on having Tierney in their ranks.
However, it won’t be easy given that Arsenal are not willing to sell. If they do agree to sell, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this transfer tussle.
