La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the progress of 20-year-old Liverpool prospect Marcelo Pitaluga.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Marcelo Pitaluga has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on the 20-year-old goalkeeper. Meanwhile, the Liverpool prospect has drawn comparisons with compatriot Alisson Becker.
Marcelo Pitaluga spent his formative years in his homeland, rising through the ranks at Fluminense. But the Brazilian goalkeeper ended his youth career with Liverpool, joining them in September 2020. Since then, he has made gradual progress and is yet to make his first-team debut.
The 20-year-old prospect has made 27 appearances thus far for Liverpool’s under-21 side, keeping five clean sheets. And Pitaluga is currently on loan at non-league club Macclesfield FC. But despite the humble beginnings, the youngster remains highly rated and has drawn comparisons with Alisson Becker. At the same time, he has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid might have to delve into the market for a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. That is because Andriy Lunin is unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu. And the Ukrainian goalkeeper might call it quits at Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. That will force Los Blancos into the market for a shot-stopper at the end of the season.
But Real Madrid will unlikely pursue a goalkeeper to usurp Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian international is only 30 years old and will likely remain the first-choice stopper for a few more years. So Real Madrid should enter the market for a goalkeeper to be Courtois’s deputy.
A few goalkeepers, including Fernando Pacheco, have thus popped up on Real Madrid’s radar. And Marcelo Pitaluga has now emerged as a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition for the Liverpool prospect, with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid also interested.
Meanwhile, it is unclear how Pitaluga will respond to a potential approach from Real Madrid. For now, the “new Alisson” has popped up on Los Blancos‘ radar. And a summer move might be on the cards for the Liverpool goalkeeper.
