Liverpool will look to sign Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio in a Bosman move this summer to replace the outgoing Roberto Firmino.
According to Jacque Talbot, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from Liverpool. And the Reds are considering the Real Madrid attacker as a potential replacement for Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian international will leave Liverpool as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
The end of an era is approaching Liverpool, as only a few remnants of the fabled team will remain at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window. Sadio Mane had already departed from the club last summer to join Bayern Munich. And according to widespread reports, Joel Matip and James Milner might leave Liverpool this year.
But the most important departure will be that of Roberto Firmino, who joined Liverpool even before Jurgen Klopp. The Brazilian international was a vital cog in Klopp’s methodical team. And his presence allowed Mane and Mohamed Salah to score bags of runs in the last half a dozen years.
However, Firmino has decided to call it quits at Anfield and end his glorious Liverpool stint. And despite signing Cody Gakpo in the January transfer window, the Reds are in the market for Firmino’s replacement. That is also because Diogo Jota faces an uncertain future at the Merseyside club.
The Portuguese international has fallen down the pecking order after his recent injury woes. So it behoves Liverpool to scour the market for a potential replacement for Firmino. And Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio has emerged on their radar as a candidate to fill the Brazilian’s void.
The Spanish international has been on Liverpool’s wishlist for a long time. But it is interesting to note that the Reds view the Real Madrid attacker as a replacement for Firmino. And while the 27-year-old is capable of playing centrally, he is at his best out wide. Nonetheless, Asensio’s signature will be in demand in the summer.
That is because the Spaniard is in the final months of his contract. And considering he has managed a little over 1,000 minutes of game time this season, he does not have the impetus to sign a new contract with Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Asensio’s market value has fallen to €25 million.
While that figure does not matter if he becomes a free agent, €25 million is a paltry figure that suggests how he needs to resurrect his stature. Meanwhile, Liverpool might have to compete with other Premier League clubs for the Real Madrid attacker. And it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Asensio.
