Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Arsenal might not be in the chase for Victor Osimhen. The 21-goal Napoli striker is the subject of intense speculation regarding his future at Napoli, with several Premier League sides chasing his signature.
Arsenal are a club on the rise and have put themselves in a strong position to win the Premier League title this season. They are still 12 games away from lifting the trophy. But there is plenty of competition from Manchester City in their quest for greatness.
If Arsenal end up with the title and qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Mikel Arteta is bound to strengthen the squad further. Having success under their belt also attracts some of the best players, which might be the case in the summer.
Many reports have linked Arsenal with a move for Victor Osimhen. Fabrizio Romano recently tweeted with quotes from Osimhen, which suggest the striker is angling for a move to the Premier League. Along with Arsenal, Manchester United are also in the race and as are Chelsea, with these clubs needing a centre-forward.
However, Romano has ruled Arsenal out of the running for Osimhen. He said, “I don’t have it confirmed, as of now. Arsenal have Gabriel Jesus, Nketiah, Balogun and also, Osimhen’s price tag will be really huge. I think Arsenal have different priorities for this summer, including a new midfielder.”
While Romano only speculates what direction Arsenal might take, Arteta has a big decision to make in the summer. For now, he might count on Folarin Balogun to provide an impetus to their attack, but he already has Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as similar options.
Osimhen could be seen as a market opportunity by Arsenal, as the 21-goal striker’s arrival could allow Arteta to have a clinical finisher in his ranks. Secondly, the Gunners might make a big move for Declan Rice to shore up their midfield, which raises questions about whether they might spend significantly on another marquee signing.
Osimhen could remain on their shortlist, and Arsenal may make their move depending on how the market for the striker evolves. For now, Manchester United and Chelsea might get the tag of favourites for the Nigerian. But nothing can be certain in football and transfers.
