According to a report by Football Insider, Mason Mount is pushing for a move in the summer. He is a big admirer of Jurgen Klopp and wants to join him at Liverpool. The 24-year-old is not happy with the contract extension offers made to him and is looking for a move away from the club.
Mount has been a part of Chelsea since his childhood days. He has gone up the ranks at the club and has become an important player for them over the past few years. The 24-year-old played an integral part in their Champions League win a few seasons back.
The England international has made over 190 appearances for the Blues. He has been involved in 70 goals during his time at the club. He has had a decent season with 9 goal contributions in 32 outings.
Meanwhile, Mount’s contract with the Blues ends in the summer of 2024. The club have tried to extend his contract in the past few months but they failed to strike a deal. He currently earns £80,000-a-week but wants pay parity with the club’s top earners.
Chelsea are not willing to agree to his request. The negotiations have hit a standstill. As a result, with around 15 months left, the Blues might be forced to sell him in the summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been interested in his services of late. And, as per the latest reports the 24-year-old wants to join the Reds ahead of next season. He wants to work with German manager Klopp and is looking forward to joining them.
However, it won’t be easy given the fact that Chelsea will try their best to renew his contract. Even if they do not manage to pen an extension with the player, they will try to avoid selling their academy graduate to a rival.
Liverpool have been struggling in the ongoing season. Their midfield hasn’t been at their best and Klopp is looking for a complete overhaul at the centre of the park ahead of next season.
The contracts of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain expire in the summer. As a result, the Reds are willing to push for the signatures of the 24 -year-old.
However, it won’t be easy given the interest in his services from elsewhere. And, the fact that Chelsea will try their best to avoid letting him join rivals, Liverpool.
