Arsenal ready to offload Nuno Tavares

Arsenal could listen to offers for left-back Nuno Tavares, who has had a tremendous season on loan at Marseille.

According to Football Insider, Arsenal could sell Nuno Tavares for a reasonable offer in the summer. The left-back’s current value may have reached its highest level since joining the Gunners after an impressive loan at Marseille.

Mikel Arteta will continue to build his squad, and Arsenal could make approaches for big-name arrivals in the summer. The Gunners are in pole position to win the Premier League title with 12 games to go. And they solidified their position with a stunning late win over Bournemouth.

Despite disastrous results over two years earlier, the club had kept faith in Arteta. Owner Stan Kroenke has greatly supported the manager and technical director, Edu Gaspar. Together they have achieved their targets in the transfer window since last season and will continue on this building-up journey.

The squad looks nearly complete now, as Arsenal addressed their depth issues with three new arrivals in January. Leandro Trossard, Jorginho and Jakub Kiwior are seen as astute inclusions that would help them in the late title push.

While Arteta and Edu have made some good decisions, the club also need to watch their net spending. Arsenal’s net spending have crossed the £300 million mark with the January signings since Arteta’s arrival.

As the squad looks complete, there could be a few departures. Arsenal are already considering three exits, with Kieran Tierney being the prime candidate to leave the Gunners. Newcastle United are keen on the left-back, with the north Londoners looking to more than recoup their £25 million investment.

Meanwhile, the futures of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares are also in considerable doubt. Tavares, in particular, has made a strong case for himself with an impressive loan spell at Marseille. While he was decent during his first season at Arsenal, Arteta may have moved on from needing the Portuguese star.

Tavares has scored six times for Marseille this season, mostly playing from a left wing-back position. His loan deal does not include a buy option, as Arsenal would like to make a decent profit by selling the 23-year-old defender if offers come through.

The Gunners will entertain proposals for the 23-year-old defender. Marseille might approach Arsenal to understand the financial requirements to sign the left back. Even so, there could be other clubs keen on the move.

Many supporters might have wondered if Tavares would come in as a replacement if Tierney leaves. From Arsenal’s perspective, the Portuguese full-back will only play periodically, considering Oleksandr Zinchenko is their primary left-back. Hence, the idea of selling him is rife. Tavares’s value is at its highest point since joining Arsenal, and the club may look to cash in.
