Manchester United are interested in signing Diogo Costa from FC Porto and have been regularly scouting the 23-year-old.
According to O Jogo via SportWitness, Manchester United have been regularly scouting Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa. The Red Devils are interested in his services and might make a move for the 23-year-old ahead of next season.
Costa has been in red-hot form of late, and his performances have not gone unnoticed. The Porto goalkeeper featured in the FIFA World Cup 2022 for Portugal and had quite a few impressive performances.
The Portugal international has been a part of the Porto setup since his childhood days. He has gone up the ranks at the club and has become their undisputed number one. He was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2019.
The 23-year-old has made a total of 97 appearances for the Portuguese club and has 41 clean sheets to his name. It has been another impressive season for the Portugal international, who has kept 14 clean sheets in 29 outings.
He signed a contract extension with Porto a few months back. And, his new contract ends in the summer of 2027. But, with interest from across Europe in his services, he might leave ahead of next season.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have been linked with the Portuguese shot-stopper for the past few months. Their scouts have been present at the Estadio do Dragao on a regular basis to monitor the 23-year-old. And, they might push for him in the summer.
Manchester United have been doing great in the ongoing season. Erik ten Hag has done wonders at the club, he has managed to revive the club. And, the Dutchman is expected to make quite a few additions ahead of next season to take them to the next level.
Ten Hag has been looking for a new goalkeeper for a while now. The inconsistency of David de Gea in goal has become a big worry for the Dutchman. As a result, he wants to sign the Portugal international, who is currently valued at €45 million.
But, with De Gea back to his best now, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United would be willing to spend big bucks to sign a goalkeeper. However, one thing is certain his arrival will bolster their squad and Costa will surely push de Gea for a place in the starting XI.
It won’t be an easy decision for Manchester United. And, even if they decide to go for the signature of Diogo Costa, they will have to battle it out with clubs from across Europe to secure his signing.
