Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering launching a summer swoop to sign £25 million-rated Bristol City youngster Alex Scott.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham are very interested in signing English teenage talent Alex Scott this summer. But they could face fierce competition, with Newcastle, Wolves, West Ham, and Crystal Palace all said to hold interest in the 19-year-old this season.
Scott has been touted as a future English star ever since making his Robins debut at the age of 17, and has the potential to play at a higher level after destroying Championship defences for fun last season.
Nigel Pearson eased the teenager into professional football last season, largely as a right wing-back, before switching into a more familiar but difficult role in the middle of the park for the Robins this season.
Despite being just 19 years old, Scott has already racked up 81 appearances for Bristol City, scoring five goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.
The latest of those appearances came on Tuesday night as Scott featured in the Robins’ 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round, where the youngster produced some very bright attacking moments and was lauded by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who called the Englishman an “unbelievable” talent.
Contracted at the Ashton Gate until 2025, there is a lot of speculation that a raft of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Newcastle, and Wolves, are keen on the exceptional ball carrier, with the latter even said to have had at least one bid rejected in January. Spurs, for one, are keeping tabs on the Bristol City midfielder for some time now and are ready to step up their pursuit to bring him to north London.
Scott’s technical qualities and his sky-high ceiling could make him an intriguing option for Tottenham to explore. His most notable attributes are his close control and ability to evade pressure. Dubbed as the “Guernsey Grealish”, the way he glides past players in a technical sense is extremely similar to Manchester City’s £100 million man, Jack Grealish.
Bristol City are embracing themselves more offers for Scott in the summer transfer window and have slapped a £25 million price tag on letting him go in the off-season. But could be tempted to accept offers in the region of £20 million, which could turn out to be a steal for someone like Tottenham. For now, the north Londoners have stepped up to sign the English sensation.
However, Scott will have plenty of suitors, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Spurs will be able to fend off interest from other English top-flight clubs. Also, their transfer strategy next summer could hinge on the future soon-to-be free agent Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who prefers more seasoned players in his first team than young budding stars.
