La Liga heavyweights Barcelona reportedly regret not signing 30-year-old Spanish international Pablo Sarabia in January.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona considered signing Pablo Sarabia in the January transfer window. And the Catalan giants regret not securing the services of the 30-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker in a winter move.
Pablo Sarabia is a graduate of Real Madrid’s famed youth division. He spent over seven years with Los Blancos before joining Getafe. But the Spanish international rose to prominence after moving to Sevilla in July 2016. He moved to PSG after three years with the Andalusian outfit but did not perform consistently at Parc des Princes.
The 30-year-old ended his stint with PSG in January, joining Wolverhampton Wanderers. And Sarabia has done exceedingly well thus far for the Premier League outfit. The player has five outings for the Midlands outfit thus far and recently scored his first goal. But he could have joined Barcelona instead of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.
The Catalan giants were keen on signing a wide attacker in the January transfer window. That is because Barcelona looked to part ways with Memphis Depay, whose stint ended that month. But while Depay moved to Atletico Madrid, Barcelona could not bolster the offensive unit, or sign any player for that matter.
Pablo Sarabia was one of the candidates on Barcelona’s radar. And considering Wolverhampton Wanderers paid only €5 million to sign the Spanish international, he might have fit their budget. But the Blaugrana could not make any room in the wage budget to fit the Financial Fair Play requirements.
Apart from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid also showed interest in the 30-year-old. And failure to secure Sarabia’s services has left both clubs with regret. But Barcelona will likely return to the market for a wide attacker in the summer transfer window amid speculation surrounding Raphinha’s future.
Both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested in Angel Di Maria. And it will be interesting to see if the veteran Argentine attacker bolsters either club’s offensive unit. As for Sarabia, the 30-year-old Spanish international is going from strength to strength at the Molineux.
