Arsenal are reportedly looking to get rid of some of their fringe players at the end of the season, including Kieran Tierney.
A report from Calciomercato claims that Arsenal could look to sell Scottish defender Kieran Tierney, whose market value is €30 million, when the summer transfer window opens.
The 25-year-old defender has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko. And he has started just four league games for Arsenal. The former Celtic defender was expected to develop into a top-class Premier League player. But his development has stalled because of the lack of first-team action.
Tierney needs to leave Arsenal in order to play regularly. And the club’s decision to sell the player could benefit both parties. The Gunners are hoping to raise funds through sales. And Tierney will be looking to get his career back on track with regular football.
The 25-year-old defender has been linked with clubs like Newcastle United in recent months. And it will be interesting to see if the Magpies are willing to provide him with an exit route this summer.
Newcastle United need to bring in a specialist left back, and Tierney would be an upgrade on the likes of Dan Burn. Furthermore, the 25-year-old is entering his peak years and he could sort out Newcastle’s left-back position for the foreseeable future. Recent reports have also claimed that the Scot is ready to leave Arsenal.
Apparently, Arsenal are looking to bring in players like Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo at the end of the season. The Gunners will need a substantial amount of money in order to sign the two midfielders. So they have prepared a list of players they are willing to cash in on.
Tierney has all the attributes to develop into a reliable Premier League defender. And he needs to join a club where the manager will have faith in his ability and allow him to recapture his form and confidence with regular first-team action. With his market value being around €30 million, Arsenal can recoup a handy sum from his sale.
That said, Arsenal will have to replace the Scottish defender if he is sold at the end of the season. The Gunners cannot hope to go into a new season with Zinchenko as their only left-back. It will be interesting to see what Arsenal’s final decision will be in the summer.
