Real Madrid will reportedly mull over signing veteran Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani from Valencia this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Edinson Cavani is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are considering signing the veteran South American striker as a replacement for Mariano Diaz. Los Blancos will launch the offensive for him if Valencia cannot survive relegation from La Liga.
Edinson Cavani has been one of the best strikers in the world since arriving in Europe a decade and a half ago. The 36-year-old first made his name at US Palermo before his stock skyrocketed during stints with Napoli and PSG. And he is the all-time top scorer for PSG, netting 200 goals in his spell.
The Uruguayan international also enjoyed a short and productive stint with Manchester United before joining Valencia in a Bosman move last summer. And the veteran striker has been a rare shining light for Los Che, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances. Cavani’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid considering signing him.
The reigning La Liga champions are closely monitoring Valencia’s situation this season. And if Los Che cannot stave off relegation, they will launch the offensive for a few players. Andre Almeida has already emerged on Real Madrid’s radar to bolster the midfield unit. And they are now mulling over a move for Cavani.
Real Madrid will likely lose Mariano Diaz in the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old is dismayed by the lack of game time at the Santiago Bernabeu. And he will likely embark on a new adventure at the end of the season. So Real Madrid will need to invest in a striker who can be Karim Benzema’s backup. Cavani has thus emerged as a viable target.
The 36-year-old might be in the twilight of his career. But he has shown this season that he can make his mark in La Liga during his short stint thus far with Valencia. And Real Madrid can then focus on identifying a long-term solution amid interest in Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen, and others.
The Merengues are currently keeping tabs on Valencia’s situation in the relegation battle. And Cavani will likely become a top target for Real Madrid if Los Che cannot remain in the top flight. It will be interesting to see if the veteran South American striker moves to the Bernabeu this summer.
