Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni ahead of next season.
According to a report by Fichajes, Liverpool are keen on striking a deal with Inter Milan for 23-year-old Alessandro Bastoni. Jurgen Klopp is likely to make quite a few changes ahead of next season with his team struggling.
Liverpool are going through a tough time. They are struggling in every department. The Reds are currently eighth in the Premier League with 35 points out of their 22 matches. Jurgen Klopp’s men are seven points behind the team in fourth.
They are likely to miss out on UEFA Champions League football for next season which might further complicate things for them. The Merseyside club’s absence from Europe’s top-tier competition might make it difficult for them to convince big players to join them.
However, Liverpool are likely to push for Bastoni’s signature in the summer. The 23-year-old’s contract at Inter Milan ends in 2024 June. And, he has not agreed to a contract extension yet. His situation is being monitored by clubs across Europe.
Liverpool will look to push for him if he does not pen an extension before the summer transfer window. Inter Milan might be forced to sell with the fear of losing him out for free a year down the line. The Italian international has been a part of the club since 2017.
Bastoni spent some time away from the club on loan to gain experience. But of late, he has managed to be a regular in the team. The 23-year-old has 144 appearances for the Nerazzurri. In the ongoing season, the 23-year-old centre-back has five assists in 26 appearances.
Meanwhile, Klopp is keen on signing him from Inter Milan in the summer. Liverpool will head into the upcoming transfer window in search of quite a few players. But, his priority might be to find a new partner for Virgil van Dijk in defence.
Joe Gomez has not been able to deliver of late, and Klopp is forced to enter the market for a new defender. The Liverpool boss will have to revamp his team in the summer. He will have to buy quite a few players to revive the Merseyside club. Buying a centre-back and a few midfielders will be at the top of his priority list. And Liverpool have shown interest in a few defenders, including Josko Gvardiol.
While they have identified Alessandro Bastoni as a possible candidate, it won’t be easy given the interest from Real Madrid. Los Blancos are also keen on signing the 23-year-old. On top of that, if Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League, Bastoni might prefer another club over them.
