Tottenham, Newcastle United handed boost in their pursuit of Marcus Thuram

SSC Napoli vs US Lecce: Preview and Prediction as the Serie A leaders look to strengthen their hold on the summit.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Marcus Thuram have been boosted after it was confirmed he would move on a free.

According to The Times, Tottenham and Newcastle United have received a boost in the pursuit of Marcus Thuram after his decision to depart Borussia Monchengladbach was revealed. The 14-goal attacker has rejected the chance to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga side and could end up in the Premier League.

Marcus Thuram represents one of the most attractive potential free agents in the summer. The French attacker will depart Borussia Monchengladbach on a Bosman move after he rejected their advances over a new contract. With the news confirmed, it will boost his suitors from the Premier League.

Two of those are Newcastle United and Tottenham, with both English sides looking at the 14-goal star in the summer. Chelsea held advanced talks in January to sign him, but the player may have wanted to wait until the summer to get a better deal.

While Newcastle United and Tottenham are interested, they are not the only clubs in the race. Thuram’s quality will certainly call for more sides to come in and join the queue, with many from outside of England also showing admiration.

Eventually, Thuram will make a concrete decision after the season ends, as he could evaluate the many offers he might receive. He has clubs like Barcelona interested in him due to his availability for free, which will massively suit the cash-strapped Catalans.

Yet, the lure of the Premier League may prove tempting for the French attacker, as he could get a better pay package here in England. Newcastle United are keen to bolster their attacking options and have been looking for a versatile star.

Thuram’s ability to play centrally or on the wings makes him an attractive target for Eddie Howe. Moreover, Newcastle United would increase their chances of luring players like the 14-goal star by qualifying for the Champions League next season.

Similarly, Tottenham could boost their chances by finishing in the top four and become an attractive destination for players like Thuram. They might have a vacancy in their attacking setup if one of Harry Kane or Richarlison departs, with the latter attracting interest from PSG.

Thuram, with his quality, will bring a lot to the table and make Tottenham stronger. Irrespective of whether Antonio Conte stays or departs, the Frenchman will be considered a club signing rather than a player chosen by the manager.

The attacker remains undecided about his future, but the increasing interest in his signature is clear. There’s a big question mark over where he might play his football next season, but there are chances it might be in England.
