Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the progress of 18-year-old Liverpool midfield prospect Stefan Bajcetic.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Stefan Bajcetic is starting to grab eyeballs from the biggest clubs. Barcelona and Real Madrid are tracking the progress of the 18-year-old Liverpool midfield prospect. But a summer move might be unlikely amid the youngster’s progress at Anfield.
Stefan Bajcetic is one of the most promising young Spanish prospects. The teenage sensation went under the radar for much of his time at Celta Vigo. But he soon captured the attention of top English clubs before Liverpool secured his services last summer. And the youngster has gradually risen in stature at Anfield.
With Liverpool struggling for midfield stability, Bajcetic has become a regular in recent weeks. And the 18-year-old has turned out 15 times while chipping in with a goal for Liverpool this season. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona and Real Madrid setting their sights on him.
Barcelona can do with at least one new midfielder in the summer transfer window. That is because Sergio Busquets is approaching the end of his glittering career. So Barcelona will need to identify a successor to the veteran midfielder. In addition, Franck Kessie has failed to stamp his authority at Spotify Camp Nou this season.
So Barcelona will need to delve into the market for a central midfielder. Several players, including Martin Zubimendi, have thus emerged on the Catalan outfit’s radar. And Bajcetic is also a viable target for the Blaugrana. But Barcelona will face stiff competition from Real Madrid for the Liverpool midfield prospect.
Real Madrid signed a holding midfielder last summer, bringing in Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco. But they will need to find successors for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the coming months. And Bajcetic, who can reprise any role in the middle of the park, is an option worth considering. So Real Madrid might soon launch the offensive for the Liverpool prodigy.
The reigning La Liga champions are also keen on signing Jude Bellingham. But with Liverpool and Manchester City also interested, Real Madrid will need to have alternatives. And it will be interesting to see if Los Blancos will beat bitter rival Barcelona to the Liverpool prospect.
