Bundesliga heavyweights RB Leipzig reportedly want to sign Real Madrid defensive prospect Rafa Marin in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Rafa Marin is the subject of interest from RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga heavyweights want to sign the Real Madrid defensive prospect. But the Spaniard wants to remain at his current club beyond the summer transfer window.
Rafa Marin is one of the most promising young defenders to have emanated from La Fabrica in recent years. The 20-year-old has been with Real Madrid since arriving from Sevilla in July 2016. And he has come leaps and bounds since then, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for the reserve side.
But the Spanish defensive prospect is yet to make his first-team debut for Real Madrid. However, he has been impressive in his 22 outings thus far, guiding Real Madrid Castilla to the top of the Primera Division RFEF table. And Marin’s progress has captured the attention of several clubs, including RB Leipzig.
The Bundesliga heavyweights are in a precarious situation surrounding the future of Josko Gvardiol. The in-demand Croatian international is a target for several clubs, including Real Madrid. And the reigning La Liga champions are reportedly the front-runners to sign the young centre-back this year.
So RB Leipzig will need to be ready for life after Gvardiol. And Marin has emerged as a viable target for Die Roten Bullen. The Real Madrid defensive prospect is only 20 years old and has his best years well ahead of him. So he can potentially be a long-term central defensive solution at the Red Bull Arena.
But signing Marin will be complicated, even though he has less than 18 months left on his contract. That is because the Spaniard does not want to leave Real Madrid anytime soon. And he is prioritising signing a new deal with Los Blancos in the coming months. In addition, the Merengues are also ready to tie him for several years.
Meanwhile, other high-profile clubs are also interested in the 20-year-old. So RB Leipzig will face a few hurdles in the bid to sign Marin from Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga heavyweights turn the youngster’s head in the coming months.
