Premier League giants Liverpool are all set to push for 21-year-old Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Liverpool are all set to bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo in the summer of 2023. He has been a long-term transfer target for the Merseyside club but they haven’t been able to get the deal done. But, Jurgen Klopp’s team haven’t given up on the 21-year-old midfielder, and are likely to return to the negotiation table in the summer.
Liverpool are struggling in the ongoing season. They are currently 10th in the Premier League with just 29 points out of a possible 60. They are likely to miss out on European football next season. With things crumbling at the Merseyside club, the focus is now on the summer transfer window to revive the club. Jurgen Klopp will be focused on rebuilding the team and Moises Caicedo is believed to be a part of his plan.
Caicedo was a highly sought-after player in the winter transfer window. A lot of clubs had enquired about his services and a few even bid for him. Arsenal and Chelsea battled it out for his services but none of them tasted success. The Gunners had a £70 million bid rejected by Brighton.
The club was not ready to let him go in January at any cost. He is expected to leave in the summer but the price tag will surely be a sizable one considering he still has quite a few years left on his contract.
The Ecuador international joined Brighton back in the summer of 2021. The 21-year-old midfielder has featured in 32 matches for the club. In the ongoing season, he has played 22 of those matches. Caicedo has come to life in the current campaign and has been absolutely fantastic in the center of the park.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have struggled in keeping control of the ball like they used to back in the day. The majority of their problems have occurred because of an unsettled midfield. Injuries to key players and age catching up a few senior players has caught the Reds off guard. They need new blood in the center of the park.
Jurgen Klopp wants a player with a high work rate. Someone who can contribute at both ends of the pitch but more importantly take care of the defensive duties. As a result, Liverpool pushing for Caicedo is understandable. But, it won’t be an easy task with Arsenal and Chelsea likely to return to the table to acquire him.
