Manchester United are reportedly interested in Ansu Fati, but Barcelona maintain a strong stance regarding the winger for now.
According to SPORT, Ansu Fati has emerged as a summer target for Manchester United. Barcelona are uninterested in selling the winger for now, but their stance could change in the summer if they are to receive a sizeable offer.
Ansu Fati was considered the heir apparent to Lionel Messi. Back then, Barcelona fans thought their talisman would finish his career at the club. And the youngster eventually took on the mantle from the World Cup winner. Things have gone in different directions for the Argentine and the 20-year-old attacker.
Fati was a great talent when he broke through at Barcelona, but injuries have hampered his development. First, it was a serious knee problem that kept him sidelined for a longer period. And recently he has been suffering from muscular problems.
Recently, the 20-year-old attacker has remained fully fit. But there is a visible lack of confidence in the winger. Fati is not guaranteed a starting spot at Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez, who has given him ample chances to shine this term.
Yet, the 20-year-old attacker is not able to force his way through. He will continue to get chances in the next weeks. But if he keeps underperforming, the club might take a different stance than their current one. Barcelona are uninterested in selling him, despite some interest from clubs.
For instance, Manchester United are keen on signing the 20-year-old attacker in the summer. Erik ten Hag wants to sign a few attacking talents as part of his rebuild and has identified the Barcelona attacker. They believe the Blaugrana could change their stance, which for now remains in favour of keeping the Spaniard.
In January, reports suggested Barcelona could entertain offers of around €70 million. Yet, the Catalan giants had only renewed Fati’s contract last year, which now runs until 2027 with a €1 billion termination clause. Their financial condition could become a major factor, forcing a few sales, including that of Fati.
Fati could become a solid signing for Manchester United and ten Hag. The big task would involve convincing Barcelona a sale was the best way forward. They may also have to show the 20-year-old attacker a move to Old Trafford would do his career more good than harm.
