Manchester United considering summer move for Odysseas Vlachodimos

Manchester United are pondering upon a move for 28-year-old goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

According to Giannis Chorianopoulos, Manchester United are likely to push for the signature of Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos in the summer of 2023. The Red Devils want to sign a new goalkeeper and would love to have the Greece international at Old Trafford.

Manchester United, under Erik Ten Hag, look like a completely different team. They have been doing great in the ongoing season. But, there are a few major issues that he would like to address in the summer. The goalkeeper’s position is something that he would want to strengthen.

While Manchester United do have David de Gea as their number one, ten Hag would still prefer having someone who can challenge the Spanish goalkeeper for a spot in the XI. De Gea has not been the same for the past few years. He still is one of the best shot-stoppers but tends to make quite a few errors.

Ten Hag has a vision in mind where wants to win big titles with Manchester United. And, for that to happen he needs to bring in a lot of players and set a benchmark. The Manchester United boss believes that the German-born goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos can be a perfect fit for the club.

Vlachodimos recently signed a contract extension with Benfica until 2027. So, it will be difficult to get his signature. But, given the stature of Manchester United, they can surely afford to pay a few extra million to acquire a player who is admired by their manager.

The Greece international has played 34 matches in the ongoing season and has kept an astonishing 18 clean sheets. The 28-year-old has been incredible between the sticks. He has punched above his weight and delivered time and again.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Dean Henderson who will return to the club after his loan spell at Nottingham ends. David de Gea and Dean Henderson are two quality goalkeepers. But one of them might be forced to make way for the Greek shot-stopper.

Manchester United might not have done much in the winter transfer window. But, they are likely to go big in the summer. Erik ten Hag will look to sign players that suit his style and prepare a team that can challenge for every possible silverware. The Manchester United manager has his eyes set on Odysseas Vlachodimos and is likely to go all out to acquire his services.
