Fulham and Crystal Palace are making a late punt to land 24-year-old English midfielder Sam Field from QPR.

According to Football Insider, Premier League sides Fulham and Crystal Palace are both interested in Queens Park Rangers star Sam Field and are making a final push to land him in the ongoing January transfer window.

With just hours to go before the winter window slams shut, time is running out for the London-based duo to get the job done. Strengthening their roster will certainly make life easier for Patrick Vieira and Marco Silva in the second half of the campaign.

Field has been one of QPR’s best players and has shown a real talent to dominate proceedings in the midfield. The 24-year-old joined the Hoops from West Bromwich Albion in 2021 and has quickly garnered attention with his performances.

Crystal Palace and Fulham are both in the market for a midfielder. And with time running out, they are looking at reinforcements closer to home. With just 18 months to go on his current deal, selling Field now could see QPR recoup what they can for his services. After all, they always run the risk of him walking away when the deal expires.

A solid tackler who reads the game well, Field is a proper defensive midfielder who can lay the foundations for a side to dominate the ball. He is also sound in aerial battles and is a daft hand at retaining possession. These skills should help him close the chasm that separates the Championship from the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have failed to push on from the promise shown last season and lack dynamism in the middle of the park. Conor Gallagher’s absence is widely felt, and it makes sense that Vieira recognises the need for a controlling presence in the middle of the park.

The same can be said of Fulham, who have been linked with several midfielders this month. Silva and co. have been linked with moves for Sander Berge, Andre and even Sasa Lukic. However, as things stand, none of the three is any closer to joining the club before the window slams shut in a few hours.

A move for Field can be seen as a last resort for two sides keen to end the window strongly. It also provides the 24-year-old English midfielder with an opportunity to take his development to the next level while also potentially alerting bigger clubs to his potential. For now, it is a race against time for Crystal Palace and Fulham should they make a move.
