La Liga champions Real Madrid are mulling over signing 25-year-old Italian international Manuel Locatelli in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Real Madrid might launch the offensive to sign Manuel Locatelli in the January transfer window. Carlo Ancelotti wants Florentino Perez to sanction a move for the 25-year-old Italian international. And Los Blancos might offer Dani Ceballos in a part-exchange deal to land the player.

Manuel Locatelli graduated from the AC Milan academy but has risen in stature since leaving the Rossoneri. The Italian midfielder went from strength to strength at Sassuolo before joining Juventus on a two-year loan deal 18 months ago. But he has endured a topsy-turvy ride at the Allianz Stadium.

The 25-year-old has turned out 65 times thus far for Juventus, chipping in with three goals and five assists. And after entering the final six months of the loan deal, Locatelli’s future is uncertain amid Juventus’s recent controversy. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will look to sign at least one midfielder in the summer transfer window. That is because Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are in the twilight of their respective careers. In addition, Dani Ceballos will see his contract run out at the end of the season. So Real Madrid will likely have a spot vacant in the midfield department.

Several midfielders, including Locatelli, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s radar. And the reigning La Liga champions are considering launching the offensive for the 25-year-old Italian international this month. That will be uncharacteristic of Real Madrid, as they usually do not enter the market in January.

But Carlo Ancelotti has asked Florentino Perez to sanction a rare winter deal. And Real Madrid will offer Ceballos in a part-exchange deal if they launch the offensive for Locatelli this month. But executing any transfer will likely be complicated as the former AC Milan midfielder is still on loan from Sassuolo.

Realistically speaking, a January move seems unlikely. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can somehow get a deal for Locatelli over the line. Even if the 25-year-old Italian international arrives at the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos will likely remain in the market for top target Jude Bellingham.
