Aston Villa, Tottenham contact Dario Osorio

Premier League duo Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Chilean winger Dario Osorio.

According to Chilean outlet Las Ultimas Noticias, as relayed by Sport Witness, Premier League sides Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Universidad De Chile’s Dario Osorio.

The 19-year-old came through the Chilean club’s ranks and made his senior bow in 2021. He has since made 27 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals in the process. Osorio is also a full international for the Chilean national side, making two appearances.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been aware of the player for a while but now have to contend with Tottenham and Aston Villa being added to the mix. As things stand, a summer deal looks more likely as the player does not appear set to make a move this January.

The player’s mother confirmed the same and revealed that her son is fully focused on Universidad. The youngster does not appear to have any intentions to leave South America anytime soon, and it could prove to be a solid decision.

Osorio is still a prospect and is far from experienced at the senior level. Primarily a right winger, he is also capable of doing a job on the opposite flank. The 19-year-old is still raw around the edges and is better off honing his game before moving to Europe.

While Tottenham and Aston Villa can offer him a larger stage to develop, the chances of him being thrust into a senior role off the bat are remote. He can take note of the struggles of another Chilean star, Mark Gonzalez, who moved to Liverpool from Albacete in 2006.

He spent just a year at Anfield before being moved on and never quite hit top gear. It is debatable if he might have adjusted better to the European style had he honed his all-round game better before taking the plunge.

A right-winger is on Aston Villa’s agenda, with Unai Emery’s side also keeping tabs on Real Betis star Luiz Henrique. While building for the future is well and good, the Midlands side could do with someone who can make an immediate impact.

Tottenham also could do with another attacker who can take the attacking burden off Harry Kane’s shoulders. Dejan Kulusevski has been impressive but continues to struggle with injuries, while Son Heung-min’s form has fallen off a cliff.

Both Premier League clubs could clearly do with another attacker in their ranks. However, Osorio, for all his potential, is still a few years away from being capable of making a telling difference at the top level. Pushing him to move before that is unlikely to aid his development nor meet either club’s needs.
