Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient are reportedly in talks with Manchester City for 18-year-old Scottish midfielder Josh Adam.
According to The Athletic, FC Lorient are in talks with Premier League champions Manchester City regarding a move for Scottish youth midfielder Josh Adam.
The 18-year-old arrived at the Etihad from Scottish giants Celtic in 2020. He has since featured for Manchester City’s Under-18 side before being moved to the Under-21 level. Just 18, Adam is also a regular feature for Scotland’s Under 21 roster.
Adam has 18 months left on his current deal with Manchester City and is yet to make a single senior appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side. Any chances of him doing so soon appear unlikely, with a move across the Channel in the works.
Lorient are in talks with the Premier League champions and remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached. The 18-year-old midfielder is expected to travel to France this weekend to conclude negotiations.

Lorient currently lie in the seventh spot in the Ligue 1 standings and have done well in recent times. However, Regis Le Bris could be forced into a rebuild in midfield. Dango Ouattara has already moved to Bournemouth, while Enzo Le Fee and Terem Moffi are also likely to follow suit amid links with Premier League clubs.
This leaves Lorient with much to do in midfield while being bereft of options. It would be too much to expect Adam to make a telling difference right away. However, the Manchester City prospect has the potential to improve and could develop into an excellent player in the years to come.
Good on the ball, with an eye for a pass, Adam could thrive in the less physical French game. More so, the chances of the 18-year-old midfielder making the step up to the senior level will be easier away from the Etihad. At Lorient, he could continue to develop away from the spotlight and go on to fulfil his promise.
Adam was a key player for the Manchester City Under-18 side, playing in 25 of their 27 games in the youth league last season. The 18-year-old impressed as Manchester City retained their Premier League Under-18 title in 2021/22. The only way is up for the promising Scotsman.
