Fulham will reportedly look to sign struggling Spanish defender Hector Bellerin from Barcelona in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Catalunya Radio, Hector Bellerin is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are eyeing the Barcelona defender as a contingency plan if they fail to sign Cedric Soares from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Hector Bellerin has seen his career stutter to a grinding halt since joining Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer. The Spaniard spent over a decade with Arsenal before dropping in stature under Mikel Arteta. And after spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Real Betis, he returned to Spain by rejoining Barcelona.
But the 27-year-old has managed only 494 minutes of game time thus far for Barcelona across seven outings. And Bellerin will likely leave Barcelona this year after only signing a one-year deal with the Blaugrana. Such a situation has captured the attention of Fulham.
Fulham did not go gung-ho in the market in the summer transfer window, unlike the last two times they reached the Premier League. And such an outlook has benefitted the Cottagers, who have risen to sixth in the standings. But the right-back berth is a weakness in Marco Silva’s squad, even though Fulham signed Kevin Mbabu in the summer.
The Swiss international has failed to make his mark at Craven Cottage. In addition, Kenny Tete has blown hot and cold thus far for Fulham. So the west Londoners need to dip their toes in the market again for a right-back. Cedric Soares has thus emerged as the top target for Fulham.
But recent reports have suggested that the Arsenal defender’s move to Craven Cottage has stalled. And the Cottagers are considering turning their attention towards another defender associated with Arsenal. Barcelona defender Hector Bellerin is thus an alternative to Cedric for Fulham.
But the 27-year-old reportedly does not want to leave Barcelona this month. And Bellerin is not entertaining the idea of returning to the Premier League anytime soon. So Fulham will need to push for a move for Cedric or identify another alternative for the Arsenal defender.
