La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over signing versatile Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling this year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raheem Sterling is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are considering signing the versatile Chelsea forward in the summer transfer window.
Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea last summer after a successful stint with Manchester City. The English international had spent seven years with the Premier League champions, winning almost every trophy. But after sharing game time last season, he decided to leave Manchester City to join Chelsea.
The 28-year-old has struggled to make his mark for Chelsea, even though he has excelled for England. The player has a sub-par tally of six goals and three assists in 22 appearances thus far this term. But Sterling remains on the radars of several high-profile clubs, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
Real Madrid will likely invest in a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. That is because Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio face uncertain futures at the Santiago Bernabeu. While Hazard is a bit-part player and might leave to resurrect his career, Asensio is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract.
Recent reports have suggested that the Merengues want to offer a new contract to Asensio. But the Spaniard’s future remains highly uncertain. So Real Madrid will have to dip into the market for an offensive reinforcement. And several attackers, including Alejandro Garnacho, have emerged on Los Blancos’ radar.
Sterling is also a viable target for Real Madrid, considering his ability to play across the frontline. The versatile Chelsea forward can thus compete with Rodrygo Goes for the right-wing berth. But it is unclear if the 28-year-old will be ready to leave Chelsea only twelve months after arriving at Stamford Bridge.
It will be interesting to see how Sterling fares in the second half of the 2022/23 season. For now, the versatile Chelsea forward has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid. And a summer offer might be on the cards, irrespective of his performances in the coming months.
