Manchester United and Arsenal will once again be engaged in a transfer battle regarding the Napoli striker Victor Osimhen next summer.
As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes, both Manchester United and Arsenal will try to execute a move for Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old has emerged as the next big thing in the transfer market.
Napoli’s current run wouldn’t be possible without the goals scored by Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has been heralded pretty high for his consistency and clubs have already been lining up for his services for the last couple of seasons. Osimhen has 13 goals across all competitions this season.
His excellent form hasn’t gone unnoticed by United who have managed to churn out convincing displays game after game. The Red Devils are yet to be back in the Premier League title contention but their improvement under Erik ten Hag has been hugely satisfying.
They brought in Wout Weghorst on a loan deal for the remainder of the season and it could only be a stop-gap signing. They will be needed attacking reinforcements and should they manage to finish in the Champions League spot a high-profile striker will be desired.
Osimhen is currently valued at around £120 million as Napoli would refuse any offer which doesn’t fall in place with their demands. Chelsea’s recent acquisition of Mykhaylo Mudryk showed that clubs are willing to pay a premium to outbid their opponent and the Italian club want to utilize their position.
Arsenal were close to acquiring the service of Osimhen in the past, as the player himself admitted he had a chat with Arsene Wenger over the possibility.
“I spoke with Arsene Wenger after the tournament (Under-17 World Cup) ended and he wanted me to come to Arsenal.
“I had a lot of options. Barcelona; Inter Milan; Atletico Madrid; Juventus and the rest. Arsenal was a good option but it wasn’t the best at the time. I wanted to start playing as soon as I turned 18.”
The Gunners lost the race for Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea and Gabriel Jesus’ injury problem means they are very light in the forward department. With Napoli having a firm grip in the Italian title race, Osimhen would not be interested in the midst of the season but the Gunners could definitely have a chance next summer.
