West Ham United in advanced talks to sign Terem Moffi

West Ham United are in negotiations with FC Lorient to sign Terem Moffi in the January transfer window

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League side West Ham United are in advanced negotiations with Ligue 1 side, FC Lorient to land striker Terem Moffi in the January transfer window.

The Hammers have struggled in the 2022/23 campaign and find themselves in the 18th spot in the Premier League table. With just 15 goals scored, their attack has massively misfired this season and has let down the side on more than one occasion.

David Moyes and co went big on Gianluca Scammaca and Lucas Paqueta last summer, but neither player has been as prolific as expected. More so, Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen have also been sub-par, in stark contrast to their scintillating form over the last two seasons.

The recent loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers was a hammer blow for West Ham, dropping them down to the bottom three. With another relegation six-pointer against Everton up next, there is no time for the Hammers to wallow in their misery.

Moffi played a key role in helping Lorient stave off relegation from Ligue 1 last season, and that experience could prove to be instrumental for the Hammers. He has been in prolific form this season, scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances for the Ligue 1 side and is exactly the kind of player that the Hammers need at this moment in time.

An able finisher, Moffi still has several deficiencies in his game such as a lack of aerial prowess. However, little should matter as long as he continues his fine form in front of the goal. Having a reliable goalscorer should also give the rest of the team a boost and inspire them to do better in their duties.

Lorient could be persuaded to sell their star man but are seeking £25m for his services. While the fee is rather steep for a player who is largely unproven at the top level, the Hammers have little choice in the matter.

With negotiations proceeding well, it could be a matter of time before Moyes gets his man. Winning the race for a player who is also attracting attention from Newcastle United can be considered a coup of sorts for the London-based side.
