Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ahead of Newcastle United in the race to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the race to sign Nicolo Zaniolo. And the north Londoners will face competition from clubs like West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. Apparently, the 23-year-old Italian midfielder could cost around €30 million in June.

Nicolo Zaniolo has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few months. The Londoners were reportedly keen on signing him at the start of the season as well. However, the player chose to stay at Roma, and there were rumours that he could sign a new contract with the Italian outfit.

The Giallorossi have not managed to extend his contract so far, and Zaniolo is now expected to leave the club at the end of the season. Tottenham need to add more craft in the middle of the park, and the 23-year-old could be an ideal fit for them.

Antonio Conte has followed Italian international closely from his time in Italy and could help him improve and fulfil his tremendous potential. Zaniolo can operate as an attacking midfielder as well as a winger. And his versatility will be an added bonus for the London club.

Tottenham have a number of quality midfielders at their disposal. But they are lacking in creativity and flair from the central areas. Zaniolo could certainly address that problem, and it remains to be seen whether Spurs can secure his services in the coming months.

The reported €30 million asking price seems like a bargain for a player of his potential. But Tottenham must look to secure UEFA Champions League qualification in order to attract players like him.

Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Newcastle are flush with cash right now, and they are in a good position to finish in the top four as well. The Magpies could provide real competition to Spurs in the race for Zaniolo’s signature in the summer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops and where the player ends up eventually.
