Liverpool could spend big in the summer and look to sign Josko Gvardiol as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.
Christian Falk has told Caught Offside that Liverpool could spend big in the summer and look to sign Josko Gvardiol. Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring a transformational signing to improve his side, with the Bundesliga duo firmly placed on his shortlist.
Liverpool are in a bit of a conundrum ahead of next summer, with Jurgen Klopp looking for a transformational signing to bolster his squad. Earlier in the German’s reign at Anfield, he brought in Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk, which changed the club’s fortunes.
Klopp is eyeing a similar signing to help improve the team’s levels, with Jude Bellingham their preferred target. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has become a superstar in the market and will cost a huge sum for interested suitors after the season.
Liverpool signed Cody Gakpo during the January window, and Klopp indicated he might shut shop until the summer. The Reds are constantly linked with new midfield signings, but that may not transpire. Noted German journalist Christian Falk reckons they may make a big splash in the summer on one player.
With Bellingham of interest, there is uncertainty regarding the England international’s next destination. Real Madrid are firmly in the chase, but Manchester City are also vying for his signature. Liverpool may lose out to those sides if a transfer battle ensues, which could see his price skyrocket.
Hence, Falk insists, Josko Gvardiol could become the player Liverpool could eye up instead of Bellingham. The RB Leipzig man is highly in demand, and there’s particular interest from top Premier League sides in the 20-year-old World Cup star. Chelsea and Manchester City are already in the race,
While reports suggest he would prefer to join Man City, Gvardiol has publicly admitted Liverpool is his dream club. Whether Klopp pays heed to those comments remains the question, but he will certainly look at the player as a long-term successor to Van Dijk.
There are also concerns with the long-term future of Joel Matip, while Joe Gomez hasn’t inspired anyone with his form. So, Klopp could make a big splash like he did when signing Van Dijk and bringing Gvardiol to Anfield in the summer. The difficult part would involve convincing Leipzig to sell the 20-year-old World Cup star, something they do not need to do at this stage.
