La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on the progress of 18-year-old Israeli whizkid Oscar Gloukh.
According to a report by Israeli outlet One, Oscar Gloukh has emerged on the radar of Barcelona. The Catalan giants have sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old Maccabi Tel Aviv whizkid in action on two occasions. The Israeli giants have already rejected an approach from Besiktas for the teenager.
Oscar Gloukh is one of the brightest young prospects in his homeland. An attacking midfielder by trade, the teenage sensation has been with Maccabi Tel Aviv since 2010, arriving from Maccabi Sha’arayim. And his stock has risen considerably since making his first-team debut as a 17-year-old in August 2021.
The 18-year-old is now a regular for Maccabi Tel Aviv, going from strength to strength this season. And Gloukh has six goals and six assists in 21 appearances thus far this season. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, setting their sights on him.
Barcelona will continue the transition under the tutelage of Xavi Hernandez in the summer transfer window. And the Catalan giants want to sign prodigious prospects to be ready for a smooth transition to the next generation. That makes sense, considering Barcelona made several ill-advised signings in the last few years.
Several promising youngsters, including Lucas Roman, have emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And Gloukh seems like a viable target to bolster the midfield unit. Considering Xavi already has two prodigies – Pedri and Gavi – at his disposal, signing the 18-year-old Israeli whizkid will set Barcelona up for the coming decade and a half.
With Franck Kessie’s future not set in stone, Barcelona will need to bring in a young midfielder. Gloukh will not be a like-for-like replacement for either Kessie or the ageing Sergio Busquets. But with Frenkie de Jong producing promising performances at the base of the midfield, Barcelona can focus on signing an attacking midfielder.
The Catalan giants have already scouted Gloukh in action for Maccabi Tel Aviv twice. Meanwhile, the Israeli giants have knocked back an approach from Besiktas for the 18-year-old whizkid. So it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can succeed with a move for the teenage wonderkid.
