Everton have proposed an initial loan deal for Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga, who has not been a regular under Erik ten Hag.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Everton have requested an initial loan move for Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga. The Swedish international has fallen out of favour and is considering his future at Old Trafford.
Elanga appeared to be a favourite under the tenure of Ralf Rangnick. But Erik ten Hag has not preferred him in the first few months of the 2022/23 season. And after bringing in Antony from Ajax in the summer, Elanga has been pushed to the brink of an exit.
He has played a bit part role and has been limited to only 13 appearances in the Premier League with five starts. The 20-year-old has had an increasingly frustrating campaign so far, and Manchester United could sanction his departure given the current state of the attacking department.
Manchester United are also on the verge of announcing the signing of Wout Weghorst on a loan deal. And the Dutchman’s arrival could further jeopardize Elanga’s future. Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Antony have emerged as the preferred players as the eligible front three, while Alejandro Garnacho is also making strides gradually.
Everton have not scored a lot of goals, with 14 strikes in 18 matches amplifying their attacking crisis. Manchester United sold James Garner to the Toffees in the summer. And another academy product could be on his way to Goodison Park.
However, Everton have to carefully manage the finances and need to sell first. To that end, Abdoulaye Doucore, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina and Jean-Philippe Gbamin could be the casualty. But the Toffees remain keen on signing Elanga.
Elanga has not really proven his worth in the current Manchester United setup, and the Red Devils will not block his way if the youngster pushes for a move elsewhere. Everton have been linked with a number of forwards, including Oscar Estupinan.
But they are operating through a tight budget and might have to settle for a cheaper option. Manchester United ideally do not seem to have any concern if they do lose the youngster. And a loan move might be the best option for all three parties involved.
