Leeds United keen on signing Hwang Hee-chan

Leeds United are reportedly considering a move for the 26-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-chan.

According to Dean Jones from Give Me Sport, Leeds United are keeping tabs on 26-year-old South Korean international Hwang Hee-chan. And a move across the Premier League cannot be ruled out this month.

Hwang Hee-chan has been quite underwhelming this season. And it will be surprising if Leeds United decide to make a move for him this month. Dean Jones has now confirmed that the 26-year-old features on the Whites’ radar.

Hwang has been mentioned for a long time. We’ve seen a lot of these players Leeds have been interested in, if not formally gone for, are linked to Jesse Marsch, because he wants to understand the characters of these players as much as their footballing ability.”

“It’s so important and you can see some of the fight in these Leeds players right now. It’s really important to him that how he feels about the game is reflected in those players and he sees that on the pitch. I wouldn’t rule out Leeds going for him, I’m just not convinced Wolves would let him go.”

Leeds can definitely use attacking reinforcements this month, and they have been linked with a move for the Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter. The Whites need to bring in players who can come in and make an immediate impact. Although Hwang Hee-chan is well-settled in the Premier League, he is out of form and out of confidence right now.

On top of that, Wolves are in the relegation zone in the Premier League and are highly unlikely to weaken their squad midway through the season. Julen Lopetegui will hope to guide his side to safety this season and needs to hold on to his players in order for that to happen. It will be interesting to see if Marsch decides to invest in another striker after the completion of the Rutter deal.

Leeds have been overly reliant on Rodrigo Moreno this season. Rodrigo has ten goals in the Premier League this term, shining in the absence of the injury-riddled Patrick Bamford. There is no doubt that Leeds will have to add more goals to the side. And it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to make a move for Hwang before the January transfer window closes.

The Whites are currently flirting with relegation and will have to improve substantially during the second half of the campaign to preserve their Premier League status. The South Korean international could be a useful addition if he manages to regain his form. But the transfer seems like a bit of a gamble on paper right now.

Hwang Hee-chan has one goal and three assists to his name in 19 appearances across all competitions for Wolves this season. The 26-year-old was also on Leeds United’s radar in the summer. And it will be interesting to see if the Whites launch the offensive for him this month.
