Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Lee Kang-in and are willing to offer €17 million to La Liga club RCD Mallorca.
According to a report from MARCA, as relayed by Sport Witness, Newcastle United are keeping tabs on RCD Mallorca attacker Lee Kang-in. And the Magpies are prepared to pay his release clause of €17 million.
The South Korean international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, with Aston Villa reportedly keen on securing his services. Apparently, Mallorca are holding out for a fee of around €17 million for the 21-year-old South Korean attacker. And Newcastle feel that their demands are perfectly acceptable.
It remains to be seen whether the Magpies come forward with a concrete offer for the 21-year-old attacker over the next few days. Newcastle are looking to add more quality and depth in the final third. And the South Korean international has emerged as a viable target.
Lee Kang-in can operate as a winger as well as an attacking midfielder, and his versatility will be an added bonus for Eddie Howe and Newcastle. The South Korean attacker is highly rated around Europe and has a big future ahead of him. He needs to join a club where he will get regular game time. And it remains to be seen whether Newcastle can provide him with such assurances.
The youngster plays in a similar role to that of French international winger Allan Saint-Maximin. And the 25-year-old is a fan favorite at Newcastle. It remains to be seen how Eddie Howe accommodates Lee Kang-in and Saint-Maximin in his starting lineup.
However, there is no doubt that the 21-year-old would be a useful addition to the Newcastle United squad. He will add flair and creativity in the final third. And the likes of Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak should benefit from his arrival. With the Magpies ready to offer the required €17 million, a deal might be on the cards.
The opportunity to join Newcastle is a major step up in the South Korean’s career, and he is likely to be tempted to move to England this month. The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his potential, and Lee Kang-in could end up justifying the outlay in the long run.
