Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Wout Weghorst from Besiktas on a loan deal for the remaining part of the season.

As reported by The Guardian, Manchester United are on the verge of reaching a settlement regarding a transfer of Wout Weghorst this month. The 30-year-old striker will be the Red Devils’ second January arrival after they snatched Jack Butland on loan from Crystal Palace for the remaining part of the season.

Erik ten Hag clearly stated the need for a new striker given Manchester United’s lack of sharpness in the final third. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has had a pretty adverse effect, as Jadon Sancho has failed to rise to the occasion and prove his authority.

Marcus Rashford scored a brace in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic. But the 25-year-old also needs to be managed carefully as he might be exhausted amid the fixture pile-up. Weghorst’s earlier stint in the Premier League for Burnley proved to be a failure. But the United manager feels he is the right candidate for the club after setting sights on him.

His no-nonsense attitude is also deemed to be perfect for the Red Devils, who have been on a rollercoaster ride this term. Manchester United have targeted a number of strikers this month, including Paul Onuachu. But a shortage of funds has forced them to resort to the loan market.

They will have to pay a meagre compensation to the tune of £3 million to Besiktas to secure the 30-year-old striker’s signature. But the Turkish giants won’t be sanctioning a departure unless they get an adequate replacement. Nonetheless, Manchester United have a verbal agreement for the experienced striker.

Al-Nassr recently terminated the contract of Vincent Aboubakar to accommodate Cristiano Ronaldo. And the Cameroonian international has been tipped as a readymade replacement for the player.

As for Manchester United, it will be interesting to see if Weghorst joins them anytime soon. The 30-year-old striker will be the Red Devils’ second January signing after Jack Butland arrived on loan from Crystal Palace. For now, the deal for the Dutchman seems sealed.
