London giants Arsenal are reportedly considering signing struggling Belgian forward Eden Hazard from Real Madrid.
According to a report by French outlet Media Foot, Eden Hazard is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners want to sign the player in the January transfer window after contact Real Madrid. But with Mykhaylo Mudryk closing in on moving to the Emirates, a deal for the Belgian forward seems unlikely.
Eden Hazard achieved his dream when he joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in July 2019. But the dream soon turned into a nightmare, with injury woes engulfing his stint with Los Blancos. And the 32-year-old is the shell of a player he was when he moved to Real Madrid, with his performance levels plummetting.
The struggling Belgian attacker has barely featured for Real Madrid in the last three and a half years. And Hazard has only one goal and one assist in seven outings thus far for Real Madrid this term. But the veteran forward has surprisingly popped up on the radar of Arsenal, who considered signing him this month.
Gabriel Jesus’s absence through a long-term knee injury has left Mikel Arteta with a thin offensive unit. While Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been top-class, the Arsenal boss does not have any quality options beyond the duo. And Eddie Nketiah is the only recognised striker in the Arsenal squad right now.
So Arsenal will need to invest in an attacker in the ongoing transfer window. Mykhaylo Mudryk has thus emerged as the priority target for Arsenal this month. But the north Londoners were sweating for a few days after Chelsea’s emergence in the equation. That is when Hazard emerged on their radar over a January move. And the Gunners even contacted Real Madrid for a deal.
But recent reports have suggested that Mudryk will join Arsenal this month. So that should end the Gunners’ links with Hazard, leaving the 32-year-old in the lurch. With his situation unlikely to improve at Real Madrid, something will have to give. And the reprieve might come from Italy amid links with Inter Milan.
It will be interesting to see if any club comes forward to submit a bid for the veteran Belgian attacker. But a move to Arsenal seems improbable for the Real Madrid misfit, with the Gunners set to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk this month.
