Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic from Serie A club Fiorentina.
According to a report from 90min, Liverpool are looking to improve their central defensive options. And the Reds have identified 25-year-old Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic as a potential target.
The Serbian defender has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in Serie A, and he has been linked with Premier League teams in the past as well. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to make a move for him before the January transfer window closes.
Although the Reds have quality defenders like Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, they could look to bring in an upgrade on Joe Gomez. Gomez has not been at his best since his return from injury, and Jurgen Klopp should look to find an alternative.
Meanwhile, the Reds were recently dealt an injury blow at the back and Virgil Van Dijk seems to have picked up a long-term hamstring issue. The true extent of the damage is yet to be determined. But the Dutchman could be sidelined for a few weeks.
Liverpool are currently sixth in the Premier League table, and they will be desperate to secure a top-four finish. They must look to bring in the right reinforcements in January to finish the season strongly and secure UEFA Champions League qualification. And several defenders, including Kim Min-jae, have emerged on their radar.
Meanwhile, Milenkovic could prove to be a quality acquisition in the short term as well as in the long run. The Serb is at the peak of his powers right now and could make an immediate impact at Anfield. Meanwhile, Matip and Konate have had their fair share of injuries in recent seasons, and Klopp needs to add more depth to his side to cope with any potential injury problem.
The Serbian defender has proven himself in Serie A and could be excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League. A move to Liverpool would be a major step up in his career, and he could be attracted to the idea of working under a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool decide to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer for the 25-year-old in the coming days. The Reds have recently signed Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven to improve their attacking options and will need to tighten up at the back as well.
