Aston Villa interested in Weston McKennie

Aston Villa could sneak in to clinch the signature of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie in the January transfer window.

As per Numero-Diez, Aston Villa are monitoring the situation of Juventus midfielder Weston Mckennie and could jump in for a possible transfer. The USA international has been placed on the transfer market by the Serie A outfit.

Despite McKennie being an important part of Juventus’s setup, they are keen to offload the player in a bid to reduce their deficit. The Serie A club announced a loss in excess of €250 million back in September and they need to balance their books.

McKennie missed a couple of matches for the Bianconeri before impressing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the USMNT. His stock has risen since then and the Italian giants want to cash in on this opportunity.

Aston Villa are keen to add additional options in the midfield. And if Douglas Luiz does leave Villa Park, they would be in severe danger of losing their momentum. But that seems unlikely as things stand after his renewal. Unai Emery has managed to turn things around to some extent but will need reinforcements in this transfer window to get Villa’s season back on track.

Juventus value the player at €30 million, but their current position could force their hands to sell the player at a much lower price. They paid €18 million to Schalke for the 24-year-old midfielder and would be looking to gain a substantial profit by selling him.

McKennie also received serious interest from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, and he would be more inclined towards a top club rather than moving to Aston Villa. He has rejected a move to Bournemouth, and it remains to be seen whether he entertains Villa’s approach. The box-to-box midfielder has managed one goal and one assist but has been a regular feature for Massimiliano Allegri.

A swap deal with Emiliano Martinez has also been mooted earlier. But Aston Villa are unlikely to let leave their world champion goalkeeper so soon. Villa have not made a formal bid, but Juventus will be flooded with offers and Villa need to make it fast to have a chance of landing the 24-year-old.
