Manchester United are leading the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window.
As per Sport Witness, Marcus Thuram is edging towards a move to Manchester United as the Premier League outfit is pretty keen to rope in the player. Thuram has already entered the last six months of his contract and he could be a free player next summer.
United have considered a number of targets including Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix but a deal for Thuram will be viable for them. Atletico are demanding a substantial loan fee for Felix and United also have to pay his entire wage for the remaining part of the season.
Compared to that approaching Thuram would be an easy task. Monchengladbach would not demand a hefty fee and the French international’s wage demand would also be in line with United’s capacity.
The Red Devils aren’t expected to be busy in the winter transfer market but as Erik ten Hag already mentioned they are in search of a proper striker who could be a perfect fit in their system.
Only loan deals will be entertained this month but if a suitable opportunity arises they will consider lurking out of their comfort zone. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo freed up a lot of wages and they could definitely put that to some use.
With 13 goal contributions in 15 matches in the Bundesliga, the 25-year-old has already been termed as one of the future stars and a fee in the region of €12-15 million should be sufficient for the club to make him don the United jersey.
With Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo who had been courted by United for a long time, the pressure will build on the management to settle the score. Jadon Sancho has been approved a long time off to deal with a number of issues which hasn’t been the ideal case for Erik ten Hag.
The manager doesn’t have many options at his disposal and with games coming thick and fast an additional forward would be of much help at this crucial juncture.
