Premier League leaders Arsenal are ready to re-enter the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Arthur
According to Calciomercato, Premier League trendsetters Arsenal are ready to reignite their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Arthur.
The Brazilian is currently on a season-long loan at Anfield from the Italian side, Juventus. Signed last summer as the Reds experienced an injury crisis in the middle of the park, Arthur is yet to get going on Merseyside.
The 26-year-old has made just one solitary appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s men. His time at Anfield has been blighted by injuries and it remains to be seen if he will enjoy a fruitful second half to the 2022/23 season.
Arthur’s career has been hit hard by a spate of injuries over the last few years. A player who has represented Barcelona, Juventus and now Liverpool, he has plenty of years left at the top. As long as he stays fit, there is every chance the Brazilian can rediscover his mojo.
Arsenal are slowly yet steadily putting together a solid young team. One area that needs addressing is the central midfield, and it would appear Arthur is now back on their radar. Mikel Arteta is a fan of the player, and a summer move could be on the cards should Juventus choose to let him go.
The Bianconeri are keen on Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes and could offer Arthur in part exchange to get the deal over the line. Potentially landing Evan N’Dicka for free in the 2023 summer could free up Gabriel for an exit, should the Gunners opt to do so.
By doing so, they might land themselves a neat transfer fee and a midfielder to boot. The fact that Juventus were ready to let Liverpool have Arthur on loan shows that the player’s position in Turin is far from ideal. Should the right offer arrive, with or without Gabriel, Arthur could land at the Emirates.
An excellent passer, Arthur is an intelligent player whose good ball control and awareness make him a solid addition to a side that enjoys possession-based football. Arthur does have his weakness such as a lack of aerial prowess, but it can be offset by partnering him with Thomas Partey.
Liverpool require midfielders themselves, but it is difficult to see them make Arthur’s stay permanent beyond next summer. Unless he puts in a series of world-class shifts in the coming months, the coast might be clear for Arsenal to make their move.
