Real Madrid cool interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

La Liga champions Real Madrid are no longer interested in signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Serie A giants Napoli in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia no longer features on the radar of Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions have decided to pull the plug on pursuing the 21-year-old Napoli attacking powerhouse.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia spent his formative years in his homeland and Russia before rising to prominence at Rubin Kazan. But the Ukraine-Russia conflict brought a premature end to his stint at the Ak Bars Arena. And the Georgian international moved to Serie A club Napoli in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a stunning first half of the season, amassing eight goals and ten assists in 17 appearances thus far. Kvaratskhelia has also set the international stage alight with his performances in the UEFA Nations League. And the player’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will complete the transition to the next generation in the coming year. And Carlo Ancelotti wants to revamp his squad to ensure a smooth succession. The reigning La Liga champions are thus eager to bolster the midfield and offensive units in the coming transfer windows.

The priority in the attack is to find Karim Benzema’s successor. But with Real Madrid reaching an agreement to sign Endrick in July 2024, there is no spot for another attacker. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes have locked down the two wide-attacking slots for the coming decade. So while Real Madrid had been keeping tabs on Kvaratskhelia, a move was not suitable.

The reigning La Liga champions have now pulled the plug on a move for the 21-year-old Napoli attacking powerhouse. And the Serie A giants will unlikely sell Kvaratskhelia in the summer anyway amid widespread reports linking Victor Osimhen with a possible departure.

With Napoli again becoming Serie A title contenders, selling two top attackers will not be sensible. So the Georgian international looks destined to remain at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium beyond the summer. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will unlikely bolster the attack, with a midfield reinforcement more crucial.
