Aston Villa are said to be interested in securing a move for Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno in January.
As per a report in Mundo Deportivo, Aston Villa are exploring a deal for Real Betis defender Alex Moreno as Unai Emery wants to freshen up the existing squad.
Moreno has been a consistent performer on the left side of the defence for Betis and he is one of their high-value assets. The 29-year-old has already been presented with an opportunity to sign an extension but an agreement is yet to be reached so far.
Moreno was on the verge of leaving Betis as the Spanish side accepted an offer from Nottingham Forest in the summer but the Spanish player refused to join at the last moment and decided to stay at the club.
He has been a regular for the reigning Copa del Rey champions but Villa are very adamant to sign the player when the transfer window opens next month.
Betis have an €18 million price tag for the player and his former club Rayo Vallecano are also entitled to get a 20 percent cut from his sale. So the Spanish club will try to grind out the maximum as they also have to balance their books by offloading one of their players.
Aston Villa do not have an extensive relegation crisis at this moment. But they are just five points adrift of the bottom three and any more defeats would only complicate their chances in the top flight.
Aston Villa are pretty well stacked in the left-back department and Lucas Digne has been the preferred choice. Ludwig Augustinsson has not been used much and he is expected to return to Sevilla following the conclusion of his loan spell while Ashley Young’s current deal runs down next summer.
So a move for Moreno makes sense and he would provide stiff competition for Digne on the side. Moreno can also be deployed in a further advanced role on the left flank so his versatility could give Villa leverage if he does arrive in the Midlands.
