Manchester United might be missing out on Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix in January as they could find it difficult to fund a loan move for the player.
As per a report by The Guardian, Manchester United might have to settle without a move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix. The Red Devils have been credited with an interest in the Portuguese international.
Liverpool’s decision to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven has pushed Manchester United into an uncertain territory as they had courted his signature for a long time. But as it stands, the Reds have beaten them to another target.
The Red Devils had been in contact with PSV over the possibility of a transfer. And Manchester United had reportedly discussed a loan deal with the Dutch club with the option to make it permanent the next summer.
But Liverpool offered a handsome amount as an upfront fee. And they have been keen to take the player on a permanent deal which facilitated the transfer pretty quickly.
United do not really fall for deals in January. But they badly need an additional striker as Erik ten Hag has already outlined to the recruitment team. The attacking contingent lacks the right balance as the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo opened up a big void.
Jadon Sancho has also been approved a lengthy time off to deal with his mental condition. So the Red Devils are pretty light in their attacking aspects, and Joao Felix appeared to be the solution for the Premier League giants. But current circumstances reveal a loan deal too could prove to be a bit difficult as the terms might not fall into the perfect place.
Atletico would want Manchester United to pay Felix’s wages in full. The Red Devils are looking for an out-and-out centre forward but Felix has mostly preferred to operate just behind the main striker.
He can be also effective on the wings but he might have very little to offer from a further advanced position. Manchester United could invest in a striker but that could take a big chunk out of their summer transfer window, and they cannot afford to lose focus at that crucial juncture.
