Real Madrid poised to re-sign Fran Garcia

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly well positioned to re-sign 23-year-old Spanish left-back Fran Garcia next year.

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Fran Garcia is poised to rejoin Real Madrid next year. The reigning La Liga champions are well positioned to bring the 23-year-old Rayo Vallecano left-back back to the Santiago Bernabeu if they sell Ferland Mendy.

Fran Garcia is one of the brightest young defenders to have emanated from the Real Madrid academy in the 21st century. But despite being a superb performer during his days in La Fabrica, he never established a foothold in the first-team squad at Real Madrid. But that was hardly surprising, considering Marcelo and Ferland Mendy’s presence in the team.

Garcia subsequently decided to join Rayo Vallecano a couple of years ago. And after a superb loan stint with the Los Franjirrojos, the Spanish left-back completed a permanent move last year. And the 23-year-old has three goals and eight assists in 97 appearances thus far for Rayo Vallecano. The player’s performances have not gone unnoticed either.

Several La Liga clubs showed interest in Garcia in the summer transfer window, including Real Madrid. And the Merengues remain keen on re-signing the 23-year-old Spanish left-back next year. This stance comes in the wake of uncertainties surrounding Ferland Mendy’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The French international has not been consistent for Real Madrid in the last 18 months. And recent reports have claimed that the reigning La Liga champions are weighing up his sale. Fran Garcia has thus emerged as a candidate to replace Mendy in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old will unlikely say no to rejoining Real Madrid after recently admitting to his desire to return to the Bernabeu. And according to Defensa Central, the Merengues are poised to re-sign the Spanish left-back if Mendy leaves.

Replacing Mendy with Garcia will mean David Alaba will be an option for the left-back berth instead of a centre-back. In addition, Real Madrid will look to sign Josko Gvardiol to complete the defensive unit. It will thus be interesting to see if the three transfers materialise in the summer.
