Arsenal, Tottenham fall behind Atletico Madrid in Alexis Mac Allister pursuit

Arsenal and Tottenham have fallen behind La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in pursuit of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister.

According to Fichajes, La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are leading the chase for Alexis Mac Allister, with Arsenal and Tottenham trailing the Spanish giants. The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is a hot target for many clubs, but Diego Simeone has a plan for the Argentine.

If there were doubts regarding Alexis Mac Allister’s ability to perform on the big stage, the World Cup winner made his case with some sensational performances for Argentina. The Brighton midfielder was a key part of Lionel Scaloni’s side on their way to lifting the big gold trophy in Qatar.

Mac Allister scored one goal during the tournament and set up the goal for Angel Di Maria in the final against France. He was one of Argentina’s standout performers, and naturally, there is plenty of interest in signing him from some of the top clubs.

Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly been keen, while Tottenham are also thought to be keeping tabs on his situation. Brighton are relaxed about Mac Allister, considering they only agreed on a new contract with the World Cup winner in October.

His current deal is valid until 2025, with Brighton holding the option to extend it by another season. And Tottenham have already been told that Mac Allister might not become available in January.

Arsenal are keen, considering Mikel Arteta is seeking a new midfield option. Mac Allister’s energy is a great quality for any team, including the Gunners, who could approach Brighton for details. While a move in January for the north Londoners is doubtful, they might look to sign him in the summer.

The report claims Arsenal and Tottenham trail Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of Mac Allister. Diego Simeone is keen on signing the World Cup winner in January. He wants to pair him with international teammate and midfield partner Rodrigo De Paul.

Mac Allister is reportedly open to moving to La Liga but wants guarantees that De Paul and Nahuel Molina will remain at the club for the foreseeable future. The presence of his compatriots could become a key factor for the World Cup winner to consider a move to the Spanish giants.

In terms of his profile, Simeone is in the market for a player of Mac Allister’s calibre and qualities. Atletico Madrid have lacked an energetic presence in the middle of the field who could dictate play on both ends of the pitch. And the World Cup winner should prove an astute signing for the Madrid side.

While Atletico Madrid lead the chase, there is no reason to rule out an approach from Arsenal or Tottenham. Mac Allister will be a great asset wherever he goes, but Brighton are not about to let him leave on the cheap.
