Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio in a Bosman move next year.
According to a report by French outlet Media Foot Marseille, Marco Asensio has emerged on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions are considering signing the Real Madrid attacker in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.
Marco Asensio is at a crucial juncture of his career after entering the final year of his contract with Real Madrid. The Spanish international had enjoyed his most productive campaign in 2021/22, with only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior scoring more often than him. Yet, he finds himself sharing game time at Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old has thus unsurprisingly taken his sweet time to decide on his future. Nonetheless, Asensio remains a prolific contributor for Real Madrid, chipping in with three goals and three assists in just 426 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, the player’s contract situation at Real Madrid has captured the attention of PSG.
The French champions are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Kylian Mbappe. The 23-year-old attacker, who infamously snubbed Real Madrid to sign a new PSG contract, is unsettled at Parc des Princes. And Mbappe might call it quits at PSG at the end of the 2022/23 season.
In addition, Neymar and Lionel Messi are on the wrong side of 30, with neither player’s future set in stone. So PSG will need to be in the market for at least one offensive reinforcement. Several attackers, including Gabriel Martinelli, have thus emerged on Les Parisiens’ radar. And Asensio is also a viable target.
But recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will soon offer a three-year contract to Asensio. So PSG will need to work hard to convince the Spaniard to end his stint with Real Madrid and join them next year. The French champions will have their opportunity to secure a pre-contract agreement in January.
It is unclear if Asensio is ready to leave Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer transfer window. But the prospect of joining a club like PSG in a Bosman move should be appealing. So it will be interesting to see if Les Parisiens can strike a blow to bitter rival Real Madrid next year.
