Manchester United are unlikely to bring in either Jude Bellingham or Frenkie de Jong as current circumstances won’t permit their arrival.
Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that it would be a massive task for Manchester United to afford both Jude Bellingham and Frenkie de Jong. Both the midfielders are regarded as two of the most majestic players of the current era, and the Red Devils have been linked heavily with them.
Signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer has definitely developed an attacking and entertaining brand of football. But the gap is yet to be bridged. Erik ten Hag has been given the framework to deal with the adversity, and the Manchester United manager is looking to replace the existing non-essential players in the squad.
He has already demonstrated his influence by handling the Cristiano Ronaldo incident without a major fuss. And the Premier League giants seem to have solidified their position by backing their manager.
Bellingham’s World Cup performances have further elevated his level by a few notches and will certainly generate a lot of attention in January. Early signs show Borussia Dortmund will be ready to conduct business if they are guaranteed the right price. And his value may touch the £130 million mark, with Liverpool and Manchester City battling Manchester United for his services.
Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong kept Manchester United dancing to his tune throughout the summer and rejected an outright move at the last moment. The Dutch midfielder was not keen to leave Barcelona, and the Premier League did not attract them at all.
But he will have a chance to reunite with his former boss when the Catalan giants face Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League playoffs. With Barcelona crashing out of the UEFA Champions League, it was suggested Manchester United’s path to de Jong might be clear. But Fabrizio Romano suggests otherwise.
“I said many times the same on Bellingham: Man United want to try for Bellingham, but they know they have not so many chances to sign him as there are many clubs pushing for a long time.”
“For Frenkie de Jong, I think it’s not time to restart the reports… it’s absolutely the same: for a future transfer to happen, Frenkie has to change his mind and this has not happened. He’s focused on Barca now.”
It remains to be seen whether Manchester United indulge themselves in probably two of the most complicated transfers for the time being. But according to Fabrizio Romano, they are unlikely to secure the services of either player.
