Liverpool have been boosted in their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as the midfielder’s entourage is believed to be pushing for a deal.
As per famous journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool are ahead in line for the service of Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. The 26-year-old has had a pretty memorable World Cup guiding his country to the semifinal.
Jurgen Klopp has been looking for options in central midfield and Amrabat’s string of impressive performances caught his eye. The manager already had a meeting with his entourage over a possible deal and further discussion will take place in a second meeting.
Liverpool have a pretty heavily stocked midfield but the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are on the verge of leaving the club. At the same time, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are entangled with their lingering injury problems.
Klopp did try to stabilise the situation by agreeing to a loan deal for Arthur from Juventus but the Brazilian has been on the sidelines with a prolonged injury. In this situation, a new midfielder could be the only option and the German manager is hoping to get on in January.
Tottenham Hotspur are also very keen to have the service of the player but Di Marzio believes Liverpool have a definite edge in the race.
“Yes. Because he has all the characteristics he needs to play under Antonio Conte. But at the moment they are very happy with Bentancur, and he plays in the same position. But I think Amrabat’s agency, Stellar, will try to place him with Liverpool in the Premier League. Everyone sees something in that, it would be the dream of the agency, but also that of the player in question. And Klopp wants to sign a new central midfielder… Talks have been made, but no official steps have been taken yet.
“Another team that could take the plunge is Brighton & Hove Albion, although Fiorentina does not want to sell him at all. He is the bet of Rocco Benito Comisso, who brought him to Florence. Anyway, if the price tag around his neck for the World Cup was €20 million, it is now €40 to €45 million. If that is offered, Fiorentina will think about a sale.”
The Reds will try to offload a few fringe midfielders in January which would further ease the path of Amrabat to arrive in Merseyside.
