La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly mulling over a move for Yassine Bounou following his heroics at the World Cup.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Yassine Bounou has emerged on the radar of Barcelona. The Moroccan goalkeeper has become a highly sought-after player in the market after his exploits at the World Cup. And Sevilla will demand around €30 million to part ways with him.
Yassine Bounou has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Sevilla. The 31-year-old rose to prominence during his loan stint with the Andalusian club in the 2019/20 season. The experienced goalkeeper had been instrumental in Los Nervionenses’ UEFA Europa League triumph that term. And he has gone from strength to strength after completing a permanent move in 2020.
Bono won the Zamora trophy last season, signifying his status as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. And the 31-year-old has reached the pinnacle of his career during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, keeping three clean sheets in five games during Morocco’s Cinderella-esque run to the semi-finals. His exploits have not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona interested in him.
The interest from Barcelona is intriguing, considering Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been resurgent this season. And the German international has been arguably the best goalkeeper in La Liga thus far. So it is unclear how Bono will fit in the scheme of things at Spotify Camp Nou.
The 31-year-old might have to suffice with being ter Stegen’s backup, a situation that will unlikely appeal to him. But recent reports have linked ter Stegen with Bayern Munich. And Bono might be a viable target if the German goalkeeper decides to join the Bundesliga champions.
As for Bono, he will not come cheap, with Sevilla slapping a price tag worth €30 million on the World Cup hero. But Barcelona will not be the only club pursuing the 31-year-old, with several Premier League clubs keen on signing him.
